Vernon Public Schools apply for the All-America City Award.

The National Civic League (NCL) invites you to apply for America’s oldest and most prestigious community recognition award, now in its 63rd year. Each year, the All-America City Award is given to 10 communities that exemplify outstanding civic accomplishments. In 2012, NCL will focus the Award on communities that have developed the most comprehensive, realistic, and sustainable plans to increase grade-level reading proficiency by the end of third grade. Award-winning communities will develop strategies in three areas that have real potential to drive improvements in grade-level reading:

school readiness – too many young children show up for school not ready to learn

school attendance – too many children in grades K-3 miss too many days of school

summer learning – too many children in the early grades lose ground over the summer months           read more....

Applications Now Being Accepted for Storm Fund Credit

As a gesture of goodwill, we have established a fund to provide a credit for those customers hit hardest by the October Nor'easter. As we make changes to enhance our future restoration efforts, this fund is an important step in demonstrating our commitment to our customers, a commitment we take very seriously.

Our residential customers who were without power as of noon on Saturday, November 5, as a result of the October snow storm, are eligible for a credit applied to their February 2012 CL&P bill. Credits are expected to range between $100 to $200, depending on how many eligible customers apply. Applications for the credit are being accepted from Wednesday, December 7, 2011 through 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. We are also contacting all customers who called the state's Infoline (2-1-1) to request assistance from the fund regarding their eligibility for the storm credit.

Thank you for applying and we will be in touch with you regarding your eligibility for the credit.
